Two earthquakes recently struck Anini-y in quick succession last Tuesday morning, occurring within 17 minutes of one another. The first tremor, a 2.9-magnitude quake, struck south of the Antique municipality just after 10:08 a.m.; then, just before 10:26, a 2.6-magnitude earthquake was recorded in the same vicinity.
According to subsequent Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology bulletins, no damages were reported nor were there aftershocks expected.
Quakes ranging between 1.0 and 3.0 in magnitude are often classified as a Level 1 on the Mercalli Intensity Scale, where the tremor goes almost undetected.
Last month, a 3.5-magnitude earthquake was also recorded near Anini-y.
Earthquakes that range between 3.0 and 3.9 in magnitude are considered between a Level II and III, where a few people feel the tremor, particularly those on the upper floors of buildings./WDJ
