The Bacolod City government recently reminded the public, after President Rodrigo Duterte signed RA 11146 last December, which declared June 18 as ‘Bacolod City Charter Day,’ the day is observed as special non-working holiday in the city.
“This is the first June 18 Charter Day celebration of Bacolod,” Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia said in a statement. “It was celebrated every October 19 but, starting this year, it will be celebrated every June 18.”
The law recognizes “Charter Day” as the day then-President Manuel L. Quezon signed and approved into effect Commonwealth Act 326, which created the City of Bacolod.
The law also indicated highlights for the annual MassKara Festival are to be held every fourth Sunday of October and October 19 would still be recognized to mark the inauguration of the first city officials./DGB, WDJ
