With Iloilo City considered a prime meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) destination, the Iloilo City Business Permits and Licensing Division (BPLD) is encouraging more business development.
“Investors see Iloilo City as an ideal place to hold an event [and] that is why they [should] put up businesses that support the same,” explained BPLD head Norman Tabud. “Through the events held here, it also promotes micro, small, and medium enterprises of local products.”
“This is an opportune time to engage in more businesses,” he added.
Last year, the city registered 15,558 businesses. Tabud said they are looking to increase that number by around 2,000.
Earlier this year, the Department of Tourism-Region VI (DOT-6) unveiled an Iloilo MICE Situationer and Marketing Plan.
“Our benchmark should be at par with international standards,” explained DOT-6 director, Atty. Helen J. Catalbas. “Our partners should upgrade, improve, and develop their services and tourism products because sooner than later, Iloilo City is the next big thing in the MICE industry.”
Prior to the unveiling, the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) marketing and promotions team was in Iloilo City for a tourism MICE facilities and products validation.
“MICE organizers are attracted to the variety of activities Iloilo City can offer delegates; from natural and cultural attractions to scenic view and delectable cuisines,” Catalbas said at the time. “Iloilo City is growing in terms of tourism facilities, attractions, and connectivity to other regions of the country.”/WDJ
