Ordinance provides assistance, priority designation

The Iloilo City Sangguniang Panlungsod yesterday approved on its third and final reading an ordinance providing a slew of entitlements for single parents.
The policy, authored by City Councilor Lyndon Acap, provides single parents with Iloilo City Cooperative and Development Office livelihood assistance, skills training, access to Technical Education and Skills Development Authority programs, Department of Social Welfare and Development assistance, and eligibility for a Department of Labor and Employment self-employment program.
Single parents will also be permitted to utilize priority lanes, seats, and parking spaces.
Eligible residents will be able to access these entitlements and benefits after acquiring an identification card from the Iloilo City Social Welfare and Development Office.
According to the ordinance, the new government privileges will be funded from an annual P500,000 budget.
Meanwhile, the ordinance also declares the first week of February as “Solo/Single Parent’s Week.”/WDJ
