At least one person was killed, while three others were wounded, following a brawl early yesterday morning between neighbors at Purok Tapulanga in Barangay 9, Bacolod City.
Police identified the fatality as 36-year-old Villardo Basingcol, a resident of the said area. Meanwhile, the wounded were identified as Alfredo Fermin, Sr.; Alfredo Fermin, Jr.; and Lorenzo Dioso, who was identified as the main suspect in Basingcol’s death.
Based on investigations by Police Station 2 (PS2), Dioso was drinking at a nearby store when he heard Basingcol reprimanded someone for passing by his house inebriated.
Dioso then visited Basingcol’s home and a heated argument ensued. The suspect allegedly demanded Basingcol exit his home; however, the victim responded by turning off the lights of his home and firing his homemade 12-gauge shotgun.
The elder Fermin, a barangay tanod, and his son visited the area to break up the fight, but it quickly escalated into a brawl, which resulted in Dioso seizing Basingcol’s shotgun.
Dioso then shot Basingcol in the chest and face.
Police soon arrived and brought the victims to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital, where Basingcol succumbed to his wounds.
Alfredo Sr., meanwhile, was said to be in serious condition after sustaining a stab wound to the side of his body, while the younger Fermin is battling for his life after he was stabbed at the back of his neck.
Dioso, meanwhile, is still being hunted down by police./DGB, WDJ
