Acap: Wrong-way driving not considered a traffic offense by DOTr, LTFRB
Iloilo City Councilor Lyndon Acap recently proposed an ordinance to define counterflow, or the act of driving against the direction of traffic, as a moving violation and assess penalties against violators.
The policy, also referred to as “The Anti-Counterflowing Ordinance of Iloilo City,” has already passed on its first reading.
Acap pointed to a Department of Transportation-Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board joint administrative order that refuses to consider counterflow a “traffic offense.”
“These vehicles endanger the lives of the passengers and other driving public,” the city official explained.
If passed, the ordinance applies for all motor vehicles registered with the Land Transportation Office and would initially fine violating motorists P1,000./WDJ
