Due to scheduling matters and personal concerns, it has been a while since I last wrote a column. With things back to normal and the midterm elections complete, everybody is experiencing the best “fiesta.”
On election day, everybody received P1,000; when multiplied by the number of people in the family, it was good enough to buy decent food.
Who could refuse such incentive? It would be a lie to say people do not need money. However, for mature voters, the best thing to do is to take the money but still vote for a preferred candidate; those who are trusted to deliver basic services for their constituents and are not easily persuaded to push initiatives harmful to their supporters.
Filipinos still have a long way to go when it comes to maturity at the polls. With Lito Lapid back in national office, it goes to show, as long as one appears on a primetime teleserye, they can be assured of a spot in the Senate.
In addition, dancing “budots” is also an advantage.
Gone are the days of honorable statesmen.
To the rest who made the “Magic 12,” all I can say is “Res ipsa loquitur (the thing speaks for itself).”/WDJ
