Outgoing Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon, Jr. said he plans to retire from politics once he formally steps down and hands over the reins to Governor-elect Eugenio Jose Lacson on June 30.
The 83-year-old Marañon said he is happy with his political career but feels that what he has contributed to the province is still lacking.
The three-term governor hopes Lacson and the next generation continue what he has started.
The governor started his political career shortly after completing his studies in 1963, when he ran for councilor of Sagay. The town had not yet been declared a city.
His brother, Joseph Marañon, served as governor from 2001 until he died in office in 2008; while his son, Alfredo D. Marañon III, is the current mayor of Sagay City.
The outgoing governor also served the post of vice mayor, mayor, assemblyman, and congressman./DGB, WDJ
