Victim’s family will not press charges

A priest struck and killed a pedestrian Monday night while they were crossing the national highway in Barangay Mabini, Valladolid, Negros Occidental.
Police identified the fatality as 59-year-old Fidel Mahusay, a resident of the said area.
Valladolid Municipal Police Station traffic investigators reported, around 8:00 p.m., Fr. Joebel Mangubat was driving northbound when he struck Mahusay.
Bystanders immediately rushed the victim to town’s district hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival by hospital staff.
Mangubat, meanwhile, surrendered to the Bacolod City Police Office and was handed over to Valladolid municipal police.
The priest was later freed after Mahusay’s family chose not to press charges./DGB, WDJ
