SM City Bacolod adopts Rizal Elementary School
As part of the annual Brigada Eskwela, which gathers students, parents, teachers, among others to conduct cleaning, painting, and minor repair work to local schools, SM City Bacolod adopted Bacolod City’s Rizal Elementary School and recently took part in maintenance activities for the school.
Volunteers, comprised of various mall employees, cleaned, repaired, and refurbished four classrooms. They also painted desks.
According to SM City Bacolod Assistant Mall Manager Julia Javellana, who led the activity, their participation helps promote the “bayanihan” movement, an initiative by the Department of Education (DepEd).
School Principal Dennis Estaniel offered his appreciation to SM City Bacolod.
The school was also the recipient of 1,000 new shoes as part of the mall’s “60,000 Shoes” campaign.
According to a DepEd memorandum signed by DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones earlier this year, all members of the local public school system, from regional directors and schools division superintendents to DepEd staff and education stakeholders are expected to participate in the event.
It also notes, volunteers are prohibited from requesting fees; and firearms, even among uniformed personnel, are barred from school premises./WDJ
