The Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) is anticipating road closures and rerouting this Saturday, when the city observes the Inasal Festival. Last year, the event was referred to as the Manokan Country Inasal Festival.
BTAO head, Police Lt. Colonel Luisito Acebuche, said they will close areas from Araneta-Gonzaga Streets to San Sebastian Street from 10:00 p.m. tomorrow until 2:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 25, to allow for the installation of railings and a stage.
Afterwards, traffic will reopen until 10:00 a.m. that morning.
By 6:00 p.m., area roads will be closed up to Ballesteros street.
As for the rerouting, vehicles traveling northbound along Araneta Street can execute a left turn onto San Sebastian Street, while southbound traffic passes along Gatuslao Street towards Rizal Street and onto San Juan Street.
Southbound traffic will also have the option of using Palanca Road to Yulo Street, exiting at Araneta Street.
Acebuche added, they will deploy a total of 100 traffic enforcers, while around 200 railings will be used at the event site.
In addition, around 200 security personnel will also take part in the event.
Last year, the Inasal Festival’s inaugural celebration, the resolution approving the observance scheduled the event to take place “in the first week of May.” However, Bacolod City Councilor Cindy Rojas earlier authored an amendment changing it to the “fourth weekend of May,” citing scheduling issues with this year’s midterm elections.
Last year, Bacolod City Councilor Em Ang said she believes the event will become as big as the annual MassKara Festival./DGB, WDJ
