An ambulance was damaged after it struck and killed a carabao late Thursday night along Araneta Street in Barangay Tangub, Bacolod City.

Police identified the driver as Renato Panabe, a worker for the La Carlota City Disaster Risk Reduction Management office.

Based on the statement by Panabe to Police Station 8 traffic investigators, he was heading towards Bacolod City to bring a pregnant patient and her family to the hospital. While overtaking another vehicle, four carabaos were crossing the road. He immediately applied the brakes but struck one of the animals, killing it on the spot.

Although the vehicle suffered extensive damage, none of the occupants were injured, and the pregnant woman and her family were immediately transferred to another ambulance.

Police are now looking into the owners of the loose carabaos./DGB, WDJ
