Minor tremor detected in Caluya yesterday morning
A 2.4-magnitude earthquake was detected off the shores of Sipalay City yesterday morning. The tremor is the fourth to strike the Negros Occidental locality since last Friday.
The quake occurred around 4:27 a.m. with an epicenter pinpointed north of the city.
According to a subsequent Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) bulletin, no damages were reported nor were there aftershocks expected.
Earlier this week, on Tuesday, a 2.4-magnitude earthquake shook Sipalay City around 1:41 p.m. Meanwhile, two minor quakes were detected in the city last Friday. The first tremor, measuring 1.9 in magnitude, struck north of the city at 12:22 a.m.; while the second occurred later that morning, just before 4:30 a.m., when a 2.9-magnitude earthquake was detected.
In addition, a 2.6-magnitude tremor also struck Caluya yesterday morning.
The quake was detected around 2:44 a.m. with a epicenter located north of the Antique municipality.
A subsequent Phivolcs bulletin also reported no damages nor were there aftershocks expected.
Quakes ranging between 1.0 and 3.0 in magnitude are often classified as a Level 1 on the Mercalli Intensity Scale, where the tremor goes almost undetected./WDJ
