A convenience store security guard was assaulted and stabbed in Bacolod City’s Barangay Alijis while on duty last Wednesday.

Police identified the victim as Rodel Dela Cruz, a resident of Hinigaran, Negros Occidental.

Police Station 8 investigators said, based on testimony from the victim’s colleagues, they were on duty when the suspect, identified as Rudy Labalis, a resident of Hermelinda Homes in the city’s Barangay Mansilingan, reportedly chased another man into the convenience store. A fight ensued inside the establishment and, as guards tried to pacify the combatants, the suspect allegedly assaulted Dela Cruz and stabbed him in the shoulder.

Two other guards immediately provided assistance, while Labalis immediately fled.

Dela Cruz was rushed to a hospital, while bystanders chased down Labalis, who was later arrested by police.
