Third tremor to hit the city in a week
A 2.4-magnitude earthquake shook Sipalay City yesterday afternoon.
The tremor reportedly occurred around 1:41 p.m. with an epicenter pinpointed just north of the Negros Occidental city.
According to a subsequent Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology bulletin, no damages were reported nor were there aftershocks expected.
This is the third such incident to strike Sipalay City within a week’s time.
Last Friday, two minor earthquakes were detected in the city. The first tremor, measuring 1.9 in magnitude, struck north of the city at 12:22 a.m.; while the second occurred later that morning, just before 4:30 a.m., when a 2.9-magnitude earthquake was detected.
Quakes ranging between 1.0 and 3.0 in magnitude are often classified as a Level 1 on the Mercalli Intensity Scale, where the tremor goes almost undetected./WDJ
