The Western Visayas, along with Negros Oriental, experienced several earthquakes over the weekend.
The first tremor, which measured 1.9 in magnitude, was recorded Saturday morning, just after 3:00 a.m., with an epicenter located south of Vallehermoso, Negros Oriental. Less than 15 minutes later, a 2.3-magnitude quake was recorded south of Dumangas, Iloilo.
Meanwhile, a third earthquake, measuring 2.9 in magnitude, was recorded at 5:03 that morning and detected north of Caluya, Antique.
On Sunday, around 5:41 a.m., a 1.7-magnitude quake was recorded just south of Pontevedra, Capiz; while a 2.2-magnitude tremor was detected later that morning, around 8:43 a.m., and pinpointed south of Tayasan, Negros Oriental.
According to subsequent Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology bulletins, no damages were reported nor were there aftershocks expected.
Quakes ranging between 1.0 and 3.0 in magnitude are often classified as a Level 1 on the Mercalli Intensity Scale, where the tremor goes almost undetected./WDJ
