In an effort to promote awareness of issues relating to families, along with acknowledging the social, economic, and demographic factors that impact families and their development, the United Nations, in 1993, declared May 15 the International Day of Families.
While last year’s theme promoted inclusivity, this year looks at the impact climate change has on families.
The observance, which was borne out of the International Year of the Family initiative, calls on member states to coordinate national mechanisms towards strengthening families, which the UN referred to as “basic units of social life.”/WDJ
