UP beats DLSU in OT

Former De La Salle University (DLSU) player Ricci Rivero powered the University of the Philippines (UP) in a 92-85 overtime defeat of his former team last Sunday in the 2019 Filoil Flying V Preseason Premier Cup at the San Juan Arena.

Rivero dropped 10 of his total 28 points in the extension period; while Javi Gomez De Liano added 25 markers and Jun Manzo flirted with a triple-double on 18 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists.

Rivero forced the extension period after blocking a shot by DLSU’s Andrei Caracut and before giving UP an early edge in overtime with a basket and a pass to Manzo.

Another conversion from Rivero, followed by an and-one play by De Liano, gave UP an 85-81 cushion with 54 seconds left in the game.

Rivero sealed the win with four free throws.

Meanwhile, the Colegio de San Juan de Letran drew strength from King Carlipio and Ato Ular to score a 76-69 win over National University./ASC, WDJ
