Two minor earthquakes were detected in Sipalay City yesterday, with the first tremor, measuring 1.9 in magnitude, striking north of the city at 12:22 a.m. The second incident occurred later that morning, just before 4:30 a.m., when a 2.9-magnitude earthquake struck south of the Negros Occidental locality.
According to subsequent Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology bulletins, no damages were reported nor were there aftershocks expected.
Quakes ranging between 1.0 and 3.0 in magnitude are often classified as a Level 1 on the Mercalli Intensity Scale, where the tremor goes almost undetected./WDJ
