In response to Isabela Mayor Joselito Malabor, who earlier claimed raids that led to the arrest of two of his security aides were “politically motivated,” the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOPPO) denied the assertion.
In a statement issued by NOPPO director, Police Colonel Romeo Baleros, the operations were carried out as part of their mandate to pursue loose firearms and ensure the security of the upcoming midterm elections, which take place on Monday.
He stated the operation was carried out by police officers from the local town police, 1st and 2nd Negros Occidental Provincial Mobile Force Company, and NOPPO’s Provincial Intelligence Section.
Baleros also provided search warrants for alleged violation of RA 10591, or the comprehensive law on firearms and ammunition.
In total, Baleros said they recovered two .45 caliber pistols, six magazines of ammunition for a .45 caliber firearm, 83 rounds of .45 caliber bullets, two magazines for Thompson submachine guns, an ammo box, and a firearms license.
Malabor earlier affirmed he would provide legal support for his aides and also questioned the timing of the operation./DGB, WDJ
