The Petron Blaze Spikers captured the 2019 PSL Grand Prix Conference title over the weekend after their 26-24, 25-19, 23-25, 25-19 win over F2 Logistics Cargo Movers at the San Juan Arena.
Stephanie Niemer led the win with 29 points, while Katherine Bell added 19 and Mary Remy Palma contributed 14 markers.
Both teams exchanged runs in the opening set, resulting in a 23-all tie following a hit by F2 Logistics’ Lindsay Stalzer. Niemer and Bell then offered up late hits to give Petron a 1-0 set edge.
The Blaze Spikers surged to a 13-8 start in the second set but the Cargo Movers countered with a run, coming as close as 17-16, before Petron pulled away for good on hits from Mika Reyes and Niemer.
After failing to close the match in the third set, Petron opened the fourth with an 11-6 lead before F2 Logistics came to within 16-13. However, the Blaze Spikers came up with hits from Niemer and Palma to clinch the championship.
