2017 resolution sought free Wi-Fi at various sites in Bacolod City
After the Philippine Statistics Authority earlier approved the conduct of a survey on free public Wi-Fi, the agency recently noted, the results of the survey are expected to be released next month.
The survey, conducted by the Philippine Statistical Research and Training Institute, looked at users of the Free Internet Access in Public Places Project, often referred to as “Pipol Konek.” Last July, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) opened 25 Wi-Fi connectivity sites across Iloilo City as part of the project.
The survey took note of the demographic characteristics of users; their level of satisfaction; and determined if it served as a benefit in terms of economic, social, and educational opportunities.
Back in 2017, the Bacolod City Sangguniang Panlungsod passed a resolution requesting the DICT provide free Wi-Fi at government establishments throughout the city, including libraries.
The measure, authored by City Councilor Caesar Distrito, promised free Wi-Fi at the Bacolod Government Center, old City Hall, City Health Office, Bacolod Public Plaza, the BAYS Center, and the city’s public markets./WDJ
