As part of the ongoing beautification program by the Iloilo City Agriculturist Office, various flowering plants will be placed along city roads.

Blue butterfly pea and sunflowers will be placed along General Luna Street, in front of The Mansion and University of San Agustin; while rosy trumpet trees will be planted along Ledesma Street.

“Previously, there were pots with plants that were positioned [on] the islands [along] major roads,” City Agriculturist Romulo Pangantihon explained. “However, since some of the plants have withered, we decided to replace them.”

Earlier this year, Iloilo City Mayor Jose Espinosa III turned over two “tri-bikes” to the City Agriculturist Office.

At the time, Pangantihon pointed out how the vehicles could be used to reduce cases of damage with regard to plants.

“We can minimize the destruction of plants, particularly those [at] jeepney stops,” he explained.

Another aspect of the beautification program included the deployment of trucks to water plants across the city.

Two trucks were initially deployed to the Iloilo River Esplanade and Diversion Road in the city’s Mandurriao district in response to claims plants had reportedly withered./WDJ
