Silay City swimmer

breaks another record

Alexie Kouzenye Cabayaran of Silay City recently broke a third record in swimming while competing for the Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) in the ongoing 2019 Palarong Pambansa at the Davao City–University of the Philippines Sports Complex.

After earlier breaking records in the elementary girls’ 200-meter freestyle and 100-meter backstroke competitions, she most recently set a new record in the 100-meter freestyle with a time of 1:02.25. Her time bested that of Jules Katherine Ong, who finished in 1:02.38 last year for the National Capital Region Athletic Association.

In addition, Cabayaran also won a bronze medal in the elementary medley relay, where she swam alongside Dee Vianne Catedrilla, Kristel Napallatan, and Allah Lopez.

In other events, WVRAA captured gold with Alexie Mae Caimoso in secondary girls’ high jump; Vince Jayson Buhayan in secondary boys’ 200 meter dash; Alfrence Braza – secondary boys’ 1,500-meter dash, Chezka Borrero, Julianne Oberes, Jean Villadar, Lenar Avance, Allen Garrrino, and Brix Jaque – arnis (team double weapon); Ryan Abela, Rey Nier Dalimo-os, Lovic Javier, and Zuriel Tupas – elementary boys’ badminton; Dirk Atilano, Alain Dominguez, Shaun Jardinico, and Kristian Magallanes – elementary boys’ table tennis; and Mary Angeline Alcantara and Allyah Eusalan – taekwondo.

Other recent winners include bronze medalists Borrero, Oberes and Villadar in arnis (espada y daga); Iorri Enoc in taekwondo; Justine Franco – athletics; and Neka Daguia and Atilano – mixed table tennis./ASC, WDJ
