WVRAA girls’ volleyball team moves into the semis

The Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) secondary girls’ volleyball team secured its place in the semifinals of the 2019 Palarong Pambansa after their 25-11, 25-22 win over Calabarzon yesterday at the Davao City–University of the Philippines Sports Complex.
“It was a total team effort,” said assistant coach Biboy Calamba.
However, he made note of the performance by Pontevedra native Myrtle Escanlar.
“Myrtle stood out,” Calamba added. “She is really talented [and] that is why we [brought] her here for Palaro—to boost our chances.”
The team faces Region VIII today in the semifinals.
In the secondary boys’ competition, WVRAA scored a 25-18, 25-20 win over Cagayan Valley. They next face Central Luzon.
Meanwhile, both the WVRAA secondary boys’ basketball team and 3×3 basketball team bowed out of the competition. The former fell to the National Capital Region Athletic Association, while the latter lost to Region X./ASC, WDJ
