Resolution mandates immediate
clean-up in Bacolod City after elections

The Bacolod City Sangguniang Panlungsod recently passed a resolution mandating an immediate clean-up of campaign posters after the elections.
According to the resolution, penned by Bacolod City Councilor Sonya Verdeflor, the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Clean and Green Task Force, and Department of Public Services will be responsible for clearing “every nook and corner” of the city of campaign posters, streamers, flyers, and billboards of local and national candidates.
Verdeflor noted, most campaign paraphernalia is made from non-biodegradable materials, which, if left uncollected after the May 13 elections, would leave huge piles of garbage that could potentially block city drainage and cause flooding during rainy periods.
Following this year’s Good Friday procession, which the Bacolod City Police Office estimated saw around 100,000 of the city’s Roman Catholic faithful in attendance, the Department of Public Services (DPS) immediately conducted a clean-up of the areas surrounding the Bacolod Public Plaza and San Sebastian Cathedral.
According to DPS public service foreman Edwin Amago, the city hired around 60 street cleaners, who were tasked with sweeping away the litter left by those who gathered for the event./DGB, WDJ
