Negrense athletes break records in track and field

Negrense athletes recently broke records at the ongoing 2019 Palarong Pambansa with Trexie dela Torre making her mark in secondary girls’ long jump and Jamela de Asis shining in secondary girls’ shot put at the University of Mindanao in Davao City.
Dela Torre, after winning bronze in the secondary girls’ 100 meter dash, put up a 5.77-meter long jump attempt that broke the previous record of 5.66 meters. Meanwhile, de Asis cleared the previous shot put record of 11.88 meters with a toss measuring 12.30 meters.
Among other athletes winning gold for the Western Visayas included Bernalyn Bejoy in the secondary girls’ 400-meter hurdles, Alfrence Braza in the secondary boys’ 5000-meter dash, Vince Jason Buhayan – secondary boys’ 100-meter dash, and Mary Francine Padios – secondary girls’ pencak silat tunggal putri event.
In other results, Archie Sarabia, Zandro Jizmundo, Jr., and Sidryl Gerardo picked up silver medals in the secondary boys’ division. Sarabia won in the discus throw, while the other two medaled in the pencak silat ganda double artistic event.
Among bronze medalists included Ritchie Estampador in the secondary boys’ 5000-meter dash, Mekyla Taborite in the elementary girls’ discus throw, Laurence Andrew Rabanes in the elementary boys’ long jump, and Mark Jhoniel Cabindol in the secondary boys’ pencak silat solo artistic event./ASC, WDJ
