Escalante City athlete wins gold

Franz Gela Romualdo Bintad of Escalante City recently captured gold at the ongoing 2019 Arafura Games in Darwin, Australia. The competition opened last Friday and is scheduled to run until May 4.
She defeated international competition to win gold in the women’s javelin throw.
Meanwhile, teammate Evangeline Caminong took silver.
“It feels great because this is my first time to win a gold medal in [an] international competition,” said the Bacolod Tay Tung High School (BTTHS) student who was recently recruited by De La Salle University. “This was extra special because I am not just representing Bacolod City here but the whole Philippines.”
“As a team, we went through a lot participating here [at the] Arafura Games,” she added.
Another BTTHS student medaled in the competition with May Therese Gula winning bronze in the women’s 1,500-meter dash.
As of Sunday, the Philippines has won a total of 18 medals./ASC, WDJ
