The Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) will be looking to put up a strong performance at the 62nd Palarong Pambansa, which kicks off this weekend, April 28, at the Davao City–University of the Philippines Sports Complex
“[WVRAA] gave their best last year in Vigan,” said Department of Education (DepEd) Assistant Secretary Revsee Acuña Escobedo. “I believe they have more [in their] arsenal to unleash [and] more power to shine and conquer the 2019 Palarong Pambansa.”
“The Western Visayas has been—and always been—a source of raw talent to represent the Philippines in the international sporting arena,” he added.
Last year, WVRAA finished third overall, earning 46 gold, 45 silver, and 44 bronze medals. They also topped the demonstration sports and the paragames.
Elementary and secondary student-athletes will be competing in various events including track and field, swimming, archery, arnis, athletics, badminton, baseball, basketball, billiards, boxing, chess, football, futsal, gymnastics, sepak takraw, softball, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, volleyball, wrestling, and wushu.
There are also the demonstration events that comprise of aero gymnastics, dancesport, and pencak silat.
