The primary suspect in the 2010 murder of former Pulupandan Mayor Luis Mondia, Jr. was killed yesterday morning while allegedly resisting arrest in Barangay Tambonac, Dingle, Iloilo.
Police identified the fatality as Ramy Enojo, a resident of the said community.
Police Regional Office-6 (PRO-6) spokesperson, Police Lt. Colonel Joem Malong, said, around 5:30 a.m., operatives from the PRO-6 Special Operations Group and Dingle Municipal Police Station attempted to serve an arrest warrant against Enojo. However, instead of peacefully yielding to police, Enojo reportedly fought back, forcing authorities to open fire, and ultimately killing the suspect.
A search of the suspect’s residence yielded a fragmentation grenade, a .38 caliber revolver, and a 12-gauge shotgun.
Malong pointed out, Enojo is considered a “notorious gunman” and allegedly a member of the Magno Matillano criminal group, which is involved in gun-for-hire and robbery incidents in the town and other nearby areas.
Enojo was believed to be one of two unidentified gunmen who killed Mondia while attending church at the Jaro Cathedral in February 2010.
Mondia served as Pulupandan mayor from 2004 to 2007, eventually losing to incumbent Moises Padilla Mayor Magdaleno Peña./DGB, WDJ
