In light of the major earthquakes that struck Pampanga and Eastern Samar this week, the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC) affirmed the text messages and stories put out by alleged fake news outlets forecasting an 8.0-magnitude quake are a “hoax.”

In a statement issued by the NDRRMC, they, along with the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, explained there is currently no such technology that can predict earthquakes.

The government agencies urged the public to stop circulating such information.

However, the NDRRMC noted, the public should remain on alert for any possible calamities.

Last Monday, parts of Luzon island were rocked by a 6.1-magnitude earthquake; while a 6.5-magnitude quake occurred the following day, striking Eastern Samar./DGB, WDJ
