Teams representing Bacolod City and Cebu recently ruled the 2019 National Tchoukball Championships, which took place at the STI-West Negros University gym in Bacolod City. The Bacolod Ilahas Seniors ruled the men’s division while the Christian Athletic Volunteers (CAV) Butanding-Cebu took the women’s competition.
“This year’s national championship has shown the huge improvement in the quality of tchoukball in the country,” said Bacolod Ilahas Seniors head coach John Elray Jamelo in an interview with the Philippine News Agency. “In the past, we would win with a big score difference against opponents but, this time, the matches were very competitive and exciting.”
The Bacolod City-based squad earned its sixth championship after defeating the Manila Crickets in the finals.
“Our team faced a tough challenge en route to the finals,” Jamelo added.
On the women’s side, CAV Butanding-Cebu defeated the Ikthus Sharks of Bacolod City in the finals.
The two teams will represent the Philippines in this year’s World Tchoukball Championships, which is set to take place in Malaysia from August 8 to 10./ASC, WDJ
