Several passengers were injured after the public utility jeepney (PUJ) swerved and overturned in a sugarcane field over the weekend in Barangay Granada, Bacolod City.

According to the driver Rolex Talimodao, he was traveling west along Burgos Road when the wheels disconnected from the steering column.

He reportedly tried applying the brakes in order to stop the vehicle but the momentum caused him to swerve into the sugarcane field.

Following the incident, the affected passengers were immediately rushed to the hospital.

Last August, a jeepney slammed into the back of a delivery van at Purok Tunay in Barangay Bata, Bacolod City.

In a radio interview, 43-year-old Gemmy Sibuco, the jeepney operator, claimed his vehicle’s brakes were not functioning as the jeepney’s ball joint broke off, which is necessary for steering the vehicle./DGB, WDJ
