The Metropac Movers-San Beda Red Lions recently escaped an upset attempt by the SMDC-NU Bulldogs in their 94-86 win in the 2019 PBA D-League at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
Donald Tankoua led the win with 23 points; Calvin Oftana uncorked 18 points and eight rebounds; while Clint Doliguez chipped in 16 points, five assists, three boards, and three steals.
The win improved Metropac Movers’ record to 5-1.
The Metropac Movers got off to a strong start with a 23-21 lead after the first period but SMDC later found their shooting touch and led by as much as 80-72 early in the fourth quarter.
Tankoua then spearheaded the comeback for the Metropac Movers as he contributed 10 markers in a massive 20-2 scoring run, giving his team an 82-72 edge with under two minutes left.
“It was really our defense that stepped up in the last seven minutes,” said Red Lions head coach Boyet Fernandez. “We just got back to basics.”/ASC, WDJ
