A team from the Department of Public Works and Highways-Region VI (DPWH-6) yesterday conducted an assessment along an accident-prone stretch of highway in Hamtic, Antique with DPWH-6 Assistant Director Al Fruto referring to the area as a “black spot.”
While he noted the quantity of signage was sufficient, “physical interventions” may be necessary to reduce the number of vehicular accidents.
The DPWH official noted, the DPWH-Antique District Engineering Office had earlier installed rumble strips prior to entering the accident-prone area. Also known as alert strips, rumble strips alert inattentive drivers of potential dangers by causing the vehicle to vibrate while driving over them.
A report will also be sent to the DPWH central office and the department’s Bureau of Quality and Safety.
The stretch of highway is where a Ceres bus recently crashed, which resulted in three casualties and seven injuries.
The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board-Region VI has since suspended Ceres bus operations between Iloilo City’s Molo Terminal and Caticlan in Aklan./WDJ
