City officials earlier called flooding
along main roads ‘a thing of the past’

Several areas of Bacolod City were inundated yesterday afternoon following a sudden downpour.
City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) cluster head, Executive Assistant Joemarie Vargas, said, among the flooded areas, included Lacson Street, Libertad Market, outside the Bacolod City Police Office headquarters, Lizares Street, and near the Bacolod Government Center.
Vargas said the rains experienced by the city was heavy and lasted for about an hour.
He explained, drainage systems were not being able to handle the amount of water.
The flooding later subsided after the rains stopped.
Vargas stated they did not receive any information regarding flooding from the city’s barangays.
Last July, amid the then-ongoing flood control project along Lacson Street, incumbent Bacolod City lone district Rep. Greg Gasataya affirmed flooding along the city’s main roads will “soon be a thing of the past.”
In the same report, he also proclaimed, once the project is complete, traffic would be minimized./DGB, WDJ
