After originally scheduled to open last month, the Philippine Premier League (PPL) is now expected to commence later this month, April 27.
“We are taking this step to comply with the directives of the Philippine Football Federation (PFF),” the PPL said in a statement.
The league is currently waiting on Mendiola FC and Philippine Air Force FC to comply with all PFF regulations.
“It is hoped, with the additional time, the two teams can be granted provisional club licenses that will permit them to join the league this season,” the league added.
If approved, the two clubs will join Ceres-Negros FC; Kaya FC-Iloilo; Green Archers United FC, which was earlier granted a provisional license; Stallion Laguna FC; and United Makati FC, formerly known as Global FC.
The PPL, which replaces the Philippines Football League (PFL), was initially scheduled to run from March to December, alongside the Copa Paulino Alcantara. Currently, the league is still expected to commence through the end of the year.
