After President Rodrigo Duterte recently expressed his desire to have the “double plate” law for motorcycles suspended, a local motorcycle club lauded the president’s proposal.
Rouser Club of the Philippine-Negros chapter head Kingston Tecson said their protest last month was successful, claiming they were able to forward their message to the president.
The motorcyclist said he hopes the president is serious with his statement.
Over the weekend, while attending the 25th National Federation of the Motorcycle Clubs of the Philippines National Convention at the Iloilo Convention Center, Duterte said he plans to consult Senator Richard Gordon on amending the law, along with having the Land Transportation Office suspend implementation until the appropriate amendments are passed.
Duterte said the installation of front plates on motorcycles is “dangerous.”
He suggested enlarging rear plates as an alternative./DGB, WDJ
