DOT-6 highlights ‘liquor ban’

exemption for accredited establishments

Amid the pending liquor ban set to take place during the upcoming midterm elections, Department of Tourism-Region VI (DOT-6) director, Atty. Helen J. Catalbas, pointed out establishments accredited by the DOT are eligible for exemptions.

“Exemption from the liquor ban only shows that it is to its advantage if an establishment is DOT-accredited,” she explained. “That is also the reason why we conduct [an] accreditation campaign to encourage all tourism-oriented establishments in Western Visayas to be DOT-accredited.”

The DOT official noted, only foreign tourists would be eligible to purchase and imbibe alcoholic beverages with exempt establishments.

The liquor ban is set to begin on May 12 and run through election day, May 13./WDJ
