Sagay National High School was recently chosen as one of 21 schools across Asia to participate as a pilot model school for the Safe School Zone Assessment Program, an initiative by Project CARES (Community Activities Reaching to Everyone through Services).

“This program is a big help for the school to advocate safe school zone,” said Assistant School Principal Rene M. Encabo. “With the success of this project, we assure that we have to take responsibility and accountability to sustain the program.”

The school was assessed on various parameters, which also served as an opportunity for students to learn about the International Road Assessment Program, Safe School Zone Programs, Safe Sex Education, and ways to achieve “zero road traffic crash death.”

“This has been a very good start of advocacy in school,” said Project CARES chair May Altarejos-Cueva. “Given that road traffic crashes is considered as the number one cause for killing young people below 29-years old, we cannot allow these tragedies to continue because all these road crashes are preventable in the first place.”/WDJ
