An incumbent municipal councilor was killed yesterday after suspected members of the New People’s Army attacked his house in Barangay Inolingan, Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental.

Jolomar Hilario was shot dead, according to the Moises Padilla police station.

Initial investigation showed that around 50 suspected NPA members on board three trucks barged inside Hilario’s house on March 31.

They used the trucks to block the road, located in area where there are landmines, police said.

This slowed down response from the police.

Municipal police chief Captain Junji Liba said politics is among the motives they are looking into.

Hilario is seeking reelection in the May 13, 2019 midterm elections, allied with another reelectionist Mayor Magdaleno Peña.

Moises Padilla is among the election “areas of concern” in Negros Occidental.

Liba warned other local candidates to practice caution, citing information saying that they are now the target of rebels./DGB, WDJ
