Over the weekend, the Iloilo City government took part in activities geared towards protecting the environment, including a cleanup event and the annual Earth Hour observance.
On Saturday, the Iloilo City Environmental and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) conducted a “One Time Big Time” cleanup event along coastal areas in the city’s Molo and Arevalo districts.
Local residents, non-governmental organizations, government agencies, schools, and city government employees were encouraged to participate.
Meanwhile, later that day, Iloilo City took part in Earth Hour, where residents were encouraged to switch off non-essential lights between 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.
In addition, according to Memorandum Circular No. 063, earlier issued by Iloilo City Mayor Jose Espinosa III, streetlights and non-essential electric signage was also shut off for the hour.
Earth Hour is now in its 12th year./WDJ
