tryouts in Himamaylan today

Hua Siong College of Iloilo Red Phoenix is set to hold an open tryout for its basketball varsity team this afternoon at the Gatuslao Gymnasium in Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental.
Red Phoenix assistant coach Rey Ann Taocta Tupas said the one-day tryout slated at 2:00 p.n. is in preparation for their basketball tournaments later this year.
Red Phoenix, a many-time champion in local basketball tournaments and previously represented Western Visayas in Palarong Pambansa, has become the home of some of the notable Negrense players who are currently playing in Manila.
Among the Red Phoenix’s notable players from Negros were Escalante City native James Yap of the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters and La Carlota’s Mark Nonoy, who will play for University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers in the UAAP.
Another Red Phoenix player who was recruited from Negros was Himamaylan City native Reynold Tupas, who is being eyed by UST Tiger Cubs for next year’s UAAP juniors basketball season./ASC, WDJ
