The arrest of National Democratic Front (NDF) spokesman Ka Frank Fernandez will likely affect the May 13, 2019 midterm elections, according to 303rd Infantry Brigade (303IB) commander Brigadier General Benedict Arevalo.
The intelligence division of the Armed Forces of the Philippines is now digging up information – like records of extortion activities – from the mobile phones and laptops seized from Fernandez, said Arevalo.
The NDF spokesman’s apprehension would also affect the New People’s Army (NPA) in Negros Island, added Arevalo, but noting that the rebels’ extortion activities may still continue.
Meanwhile, the Army official refused to name local politicians who allegedly have links to the NPA.
Arevalo said President Rodrigo Duterte may be the one to name these politicians, similar to what the latter did in the “narco-list” earlier this month./DGB, WDJ
