Rebel surrenders in Himamaylan

A member of the New People’s Army (NPA) surrendered to government forces in Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental, the Philippine Army’s 62nd Infantry Battalion (62IB said.

The Army did not disclose the rebel’s identity, but said she was a woman.

The rebel voluntarily turned herself in last Sunday, bringing with her two high-powered firearms, an M1 Carbine with two magazines, a 12-gauge shotgun, and a rifle grenade.

According to the 62IB, the rebel was recruited by a certain “Remonde Lapisan” and “Lourdes Quirante” from the Kabataang Makabayan.

The rebel was a former medical officer of Sangay ng Partido sa Lokalidad in Barangay Buenavista, Himamaylan City, it added.

Lieutenant Colonel Egberto Dacoscos, commander of 62IB, welcomed the surrender, adding that the NPA must stop using violence for its “nonsense revolution.”/DGB, WDJ
