The Department of Tourism-Region VI (DOT-6) recently voiced their support for the underwater clean-up project at Boracay’s White Beach.

“The underwater cleanup is in line with the DOT mandate to support sustainable tourism,” explained DOT-6 director, Atty. Helen J. Catalbas. “This initiative will encourage other businesses to intensify their corporate social responsibility efforts.”

The project, which took place earlier this month, involved the DOT, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Malay municipal government, Philippine Coast Guard, Boracay Business Administration of Scuba Shops, Aqualife, and Japanese divers.

After an hour, divers collected four sacks of assorted trash containing car batteries, bottles, plastics, and cans.

In addition, non-divers helped by segregating collected garbage./WDJ
