The Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) yesterday issued a warning over proliferation of counterfeit currency which may be used for the upcoming 2019 midterm elections.

BCPO spokesperson, Police Major Ariel Pico, said they have not received any complaints in the city involving fake money but noted, once proliferated, it spreads quickly.

Pico also said they have arrested individuals in the past for using counterfeit currency but most of the cases were dropped because the victims accepted settlements.

The BCPO spokesperson insisted victims should not settle and instead pursue the case.

He pointed out, if those involved go free, there is a chance they will again repeat the same illicit activity.

Pico further stated, based on previous records, the fake currency being used in the city are usually being purchased from other places.

Meanwhile, the BCPO official also reminded candidates in the upcoming polls not to engage in vote-buying and urged the public to report such instances to police./DGB, WDJ
