As part of their ongoing Fire Prevention Month observance, which is celebrated throughout March, the Bacolod City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), in partnership with the Bacolod City Bureau of Fire Protection and Liga ng mga Barangay, is currently conducting community fire-preparedness training throughout the city.

The event ends on Tuesday, March 19, which is when the final batches will undergo training – Barangays Estefania, Granada, and Alangilan at the Barangay Alangilan gym; and Barangays Alijis, Mansilingan, and Vista Alegre at the Barangay Mansilingan Gym.

According to CDRRMO cluster head, Executive Assistant Jose Maria Vargas, the trainings will build disaster resiliency in each community.

Earlier this week, Iloilo City Mayor Jose Espinosa III called on all city barangays to maintain proper fire brigades.

“[Within] the first 10 to 15 minutes you can still stop the fire and this can be done with the help of your barangay fire brigade,” the mayor said. “Fire brigades should be alert so, when someone calls for help, they can easily respond.”/WDJ
