JG Summit Petrochemical Corporation (JGSPC) and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) yesterday signed a memorandum of agreement over the rehabilitation of Wetland No. 8, located in Boracay’s Barangay Manoc-Manoc.

Through the agreement, JGSPC will improve and rehabilitate the area, which is spread across 1.8 hectares.

DENR Secretary Roy Cimatu called the firm “an ideal partner.”

“Government, on its own, cannot guarantee our natural ecosystems’ sustainability,” the cabinet official added. “We need partners with the resources and long-term vision to collaborate with us.”

Last year, DENR signed an agreement with the Aboitiz group and the Energy Development Corporation for the rehabilitation of Boracay wetlands.
