Two fatalities reported in Himamaylan City

The Negros Occidental Provincial Health Office yesterday confirmed there have been six rabies-related fatalities recorded within the first two months of 2019. Provincial rabies nurse coordinator Rafael Marmolejo III noted, the data spans from January 1 to March 5.
Two of the deaths occurred in Himamaylan City, one in the locality’s Barangay Batang in January and the second in Barangay Caradio-an in February.
The remaining cases were recorded in Moises Padilla, Bago City, Cauayan, and Sagay City.
Meanwhile, the Negros Occidental Provincial Veterinary Office is stepping up efforts to reduce the number of rabies cases, with an ultimate goal of eradicating the province of the disease.
In 2018, canine rabies cases in Negros Occidental increased by 50 percent, jumping to 33 from 22 the previous year./DGB, WDJ
